Contemporary artist Stephen Whalley has created this exquisite pocket square from a series of oil
paintings from around his homeland of Northern Ireland.
Born in Belfast in 1977, Stephen grew up learning all about the shipyard from his father who worked
there as a ‘plater’ for over 45 years. This iconic image of the Belfast cranes, Samson and Goliath has
been depicted in oil and produced on 100% pure silk to make his Belfast pocket square.
Samson and Goliath are the twin shipbuilding gantry cranes situated at Queen’s island at
Harland and Wolff, Belfast, Northern Ireland. The cranes, which were named after the Biblical figures,
dominate the Belfast skyline and are landmark structures of the city.
